Known Issues & Resolutions

The following are all known issues for the WE-Tech M4 airsoft rifle. Please refer to the parts guide here for clarification on parts mentioned.

Firing Issues

Accuracy

» Rifle is very "overhopped" when new out of the box. This will settle down as the hopup rubber wears in/down, usually 2-3,000 rounds. Once settled in, .28g or .30g bb's work best and give the flattest trajectory. "Hooking" is caused by a wet hopup rubber/too much silicone. Inner barrel is dirty/clean every 500-1000 rounds. (GBB rifles are inherently "dirty" in their operation due to the silicone laden jet of gas shot down the barrel.)*****UPDATE. Install the new chrome lined barrel and next generation hop up. This improves the guns accuracy immensely. Its like night and day. The first generation hop up is truly awful.»

BB's hooking wildly in all directions.

BB Jamming/Shattering

» Too much silicone causing misfeeds. Not enough charge left in the mag causing misfeeds (Loading muzzle isn't being blown far enough back to cleanly load the next bb). Hop bucking is damaged or installed incorrectly.»

» Switch on magazine not engaged, or not engaged fully. Switch back and forth several times in order to find its correct engagement. Magazine is loose in the mag well, not sitting in the correct spot for the mechanism to work properly. Examine the mag catch. Adjust or replace.»

Loading Nozzle Assy. Keeps Coming Loose

Bolt Carrier Is Jammed

» Unlikely. But if this happens, it could be the loading nozzle stuck in the rubber hop rubber. This would happen after prolonged "venting" and cooldown situations. The rubber contracts around the nozzle and wont let go.»

Steel Bolt Catch Fails To Lock Bolt Carrier

» Worn surface on either the mag catch, or the bolt stop. Examine or replace if needed. This is a common problem in many WE guns. A newer generation of bolt stop/mag catch seems due. A slightly longer magazine catch would do the trick. Note than most will not have this problem, the WE bolt stop system is generally quite dependable.»

Magazine Falls Out Of Magwell Due to Recoil

» Magazine not fully locked into the mag well to start with. Trying to load a full magazine without pulling the bolt back first (BB stack hits the loading muzzle - won't allow magazine to fully seat into the mag catch). Magazine catch is either worn or incorrectly installed. Spring has worn (Uninstall mag catch, stretch spring or replace with new one, and reinstall) If all else fails, bend the magazine shell outward to create a more positive "marriage" with the magazine catch. You can use any small tool that will fit in the square window. The metal is quite easy to bend. »

Loose Stock

» Like many airsoft guns, stock wobble is present on the WE. Replace the stock with a milspec stock meant for real weapons. A popular replacement, is the Magpul CTR stock. It features a friction lock that offers a "zero wobble guarantee". Alternatively, black duct tape wrapped around the buffer tube will remove some wobble if a new aftermarket stock is not in the budget. You want to wrap the tape towards the end (last 1/3rd) of the stock tube, so that it will not be visible with the stock extended.»

Gas Leak

Magazine

The rule with gas mags is to leave them alone - if there is no leak. Small o-rings are easily damaged. However, many have reported leaking mags, right out of the box, brand new. A few fills/refills with silicone added to your propane will help set the seals. You might also want to check the valves, especially the fill valve to be sure it is snug. *NOTE do not over tighten. Tightening too much with a screwdriver will shear the head off the fill valve. I have done it. The metal is quite weak.

If the mags still leak after several refills, you may want to wet the o-rings directly with silicone shock oil (Krytox, or 100% silicone grease) and reinstalling. This will fix most small leaks - quickly. (Naturally, you will need to uninstall the fill valve and flow valve to get at these o-rings.)

For persistent leaking do the following. Be sure to visit the Takedown guide to learn how to disassemble your mag. Once disassembled, remove both valves to get at the o-rings. The o-rings may be soaked in silicone overnight to moisturize them and make them more "supple". Some have suggested soaking them in brake fluid, as this will "swell" the o-rings slightly and stop leaking. Use caution, as brake fluid will instantly strip paint from most surfaces. (Work well away from your guns receiver.) Final assembly should be made with at least 90 weight silicone shock oil, or 100% silicone grease. Any combination of these measures will stop the gas leak for good.

Some have reported a leak coming from the plug insert located under the gas nozzle at the top of the mag. Should this be the case, try adding oil directly inside of the magazine by either adding it during a fill via the adapter, or removing the fill valve and dropping oil directly into the gas chamber. If this does not fix the leak, one alternative is to use a punch or similar tool to make sure the plug is fully pressed into the magazine. Make sure the plug is flush with the surface surrounding it.
